Do you work with a rescue group?  There is no better way to bring in contributions for your cause than having your dogs wear donation coats.  I have seen them take in well over a hundred dollars in just a few hours!  Slip a donation coat onto your pup for adoption/fundraising events and just watch how people respond. Let the dogs do the talking to show others how they can support your organization. Coats have generously sized clear pockets on both sides so that contributions can be clearly seen and don't risk falling out. Coats can be made short or long - just include your measurements for a custom fit for any dog! I use two layers of fabric so it's nice and sturdy and durable. A tummy strap is hidden on the inside to keep the coat in place. Calling all readers! I need fun pincushion suggestions...Reward!

Okay readers - I need your help!  I am in search of a really cute, original, funky, hip pincushion.  You know, not the old standard tomato that everyone and their grandmother has.  It doesn't have to be huge, just average size - and I definitely like things that are original, unique, etc. 

Unfortunately, I'm busy crafting away over here and don't have time to be scouring the web looking for said pincushion.  I'm hoping that you, my loyal readers (and maybe your friends) will be willing to do a little searching for me and post the links in the comments section below. 

Ideally I'd like it to be under $15, but I will entertain any that are slightly over.

Busy week ahead!

Well I have a busy week ahead.  Making 6 Donation Coats for the National Neopolitan Mastiff rescue organization- NeoRescue, Inc.  Also some treat orders and some personalized bandanas too.  But busy is good!  I love busy. 

I'm trying to come up with a great sale and maybe even a giveaway for this Wednesday - Woof Wednesday as always!  So keep your eyes peeled.

Meet the Greyhounds this Saturday @ Poughkeepsie, NY Petco!

Come on down this Saturday between 10-2 to the Petco on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie (just south of the Poughkeepsie Galleria/Target)!  Volunteers (including myself) from Greyhound Rescue Rehab of NY will be there with greyhounds for you to meet, and we will be answering any questions you might have about adopting a retired racer.  Most of the greyhounds there will be our own pets, but we will have a couple of fosters there potentially available for adoption. 

I'd love to meet some of you - I'll be there with my big brindle fella Casey (he looks like a tiger with his brindle stripes - and he'll be wearing a red "Donation Dog" jacket).  Pass it along to any friends who might be interested in adopting one of these 45 mph couch potatoes.

Remember, a greyhound's best possible finish is adoption!

Kicking off the Official Blog of The Handmade Hound!

Welcome welcome!  I'm so glad to finally have set up a blog for The Handmade Hound.  It will be a fast and easy way for me to keep in touch with you, my loyal supporters. 

Summer has found me accumulating lots of great fabrics in anticipation of a busy coat making season.  There have also been some great bright and bold finds, perfect for sassy summer bandanas.  (And free personalization on those - as always!!)  You'll find some in my Etsy shop, a gallery of which is in the right column of this page.

My greyhound Casey has absolutely settled into pet life with us and spends his days lazing away, sprawled out on his bed and enjoying retirement.

I look forward to keeping you posted with all sorts of news and goodies, maybe even some giveaways!  In the meantime, I continue to be inspired by the many handcrafters out there - doing what they do so well.
